The PAX MINI (2) is the second-generation MINI, introduced in October 2025. It keeps the small MINI shape while adding four adjustable heat modes, haptic feedback and an oven that supports full- and half-pack lids. Identifying that generation is the first step: instructions for the original, single-setting MINI can give the wrong answer about controls and accessories.
This guide focuses on what changed, what the controls mean and how to look after the newer device. It uses the manufacturer’s generation-specific instructions and support pages. It does not imply that Cloud 9 has every model or accessory in local stock.
First, make sure you have MINI (2)
PAX's identification page points to “PAX Mini 2” above the barcode on the newer rounded packaging. It also identifies the serial number inside the top wall beneath the mouthpiece, and a two-prong magnetic charger with a USB-C plug at its power-source end. Those are more useful identifiers than color alone.
The important charging distinction is easy to miss. MINI (2) still connects to magnetic contacts on the device. A cable ending in USB-C does not mean there is a USB-C socket in the MINI body. Keep that difference in mind when comparing it with FLOW or FOUR or choosing a replacement cable. PAX generation identification.
Original MINI versus MINI (2)
| Question | Original MINI | MINI (2) |
|---|---|---|
| Can its heat mode be changed? | No adjustable heat modes. | Four modes selected on the device. |
| Does the half-pack lid fit? | PAX excludes it for the shallow original oven. | PAX confirms half-pack-lid compatibility. |
| Which operating advice applies? | The original MINI guide. | The MINI 2 Quick Start Guide. |
| Which runtime estimate should I read? | Do not carry the original estimate across. | PAX gives approximately 45–60 minutes, depending on use. |
These distinctions come from PAX's updated MINI comparison and its generation-specific heat-control explanation. A replacement part sharing one compatibility does not establish that the two devices have the same oven dimensions or controls.
What the newer MINI offers
MINI (2) is worth comparing when carrying size and straightforward controls matter. It offers a small dry-flower format with more adjustment than the original MINI. It still asks you to prepare material, load an oven and maintain a passage through the device; it is not the prefilled-pod format of PAX ERA.
The published body weight is 89 g. PAX lists flat and raised mouthpieces, screens, a brush, Multi-Tool, the two oven-lid options and a magnetic charging cable in its current package. Check the actual box if considering a bundle or second-hand unit, since a list from the current manufacturer page cannot establish what is in a particular package. MINI (2) model and package information.
Choosing the oven lid and packing the chamber
The full- and half-pack lids are a practical way to match the chamber arrangement to the amount being prepared. They are not decorative caps. Before loading, identify which lid you intend to use, then follow the MINI 2 instructions for the corresponding oven arrangement.
The newer manual calls for a medium-fine grind and a firm pack. That is model-specific advice: FLOW's guide describes a gentler pack, so a packing paragraph copied across the entire PAX range would lose a meaningful difference. If results vary, keep the lid, preparation and mode consistent before changing one variable. Refer to the MINI 2 Quick Start Guide for the exact loading sequence.
Using the four heat modes
With MINI (2) powered on, short presses move through its four choices. Wait three seconds or shake the device to confirm the selection. This is different from holding down a button in the hope of opening a menu on the original MINI, which does not have that menu.
The modes give you a way to compare different session settings without an app. A sensible first comparison is one preparation and one lid with a clearly noted mode. Changing the lid, packing and mode together can make a different result difficult to interpret. The goal is to learn what the actual controls do, rather than assume the largest visible vapor cloud is the only useful setting. See PAX's MINI temperature-control instructions.
Reading the lights and charging correctly
The LED petals have more than one job. Their meaning depends on whether you are heating, selecting a mode or checking the battery. Identify the action you just took before interpreting a color. A light shown during mode selection should not be read as though it were a charging display.
For charging, align the device contacts with the charger pins. PAX's battery support page describes approximately 90 minutes from empty for MINI 2 and explains the four-petal charge display. That estimate is distinct from older MINI/PLUS charging information on the same page. Use the section titled MINI 2 and the compatible cable instead of copying the first time estimate you find. MINI and PLUS charging reference.
Replacement screens and accessory compatibility
| Part | What is supported |
|---|---|
| PAX 3D Oven Screen | PAX explicitly lists MINI (2), MINI, PLUS, FOUR, PAX 2 and PAX 3 for this named screen. |
| Half-Pack Oven Lid | Confirmed for MINI (2); the original MINI's shallow oven is excluded. |
| Charging cable | Use the compatible magnetic pin connection, even when the other end of the cable is USB-C. |
| Concentrate insert | The manufacturer listing identifies PAX 3 and PLUS. Do not convert MINI (2) to a concentrate device by assuming a similar-looking oven proves fit. |
Check the named 3D screen compatibility and concentrate-insert listing. FLOW screens are a separately identified product family. When asking for a part, give the complete model name and the component name rather than simply asking for a “PAX part.”
Cleaning MINI (2) without confusing the body and the screen
Think of maintenance as restoring a clear route through the device, not polishing away every cosmetic mark. Work with the unit switched off and fully cooled. Remove the spent material and follow the guide for taking off the mouthpiece and lid before cleaning the passage and oven. Do not treat an instruction for a removable screen as permission to soak the powered device.
The current MINI 2 guide describes a brush through the vapor path, wiping the oven and lid, separately cleaning the removed screen and allowing parts to dry before assembly. Its screen-removal procedure is also explained on the PAX screen support page. Keep the screen's orientation and seating consistent when rebuilding the oven; an ill-seated part can complicate the next airflow check.
What to check when something seems off
If a supposed MINI (2) will not change modes, confirm the generation before looking for a reset sequence. An original MINI behaving like a one-setting device is not proof that its controls have failed. Packaging and serial-number location help resolve that question.
If the draw becomes restricted, let the device cool and check the screen and passage before changing the mode. If charging is inconsistent, identify the exact charger and inspect how the contacts sit; a cable that powers another USB device does not establish a working magnetic connection here.
The model guide distinguishes ordinary operating signals from a high-temperature warning and describes a reset. Record the complete light pattern and what you were doing when it appeared if you need support. Repeatedly restarting an unusually hot or damaged device is not a repair. The official manual page links both generations separately.
MINI (2), PLUS, FLOW or FOUR?
Compare MINI (2) for a small flower-focused body and simple adjustable modes. PLUS adds a documented concentrate-insert arrangement, but the actual kit matters. FLOW provides a side-opening oven and its own accessible airpath. FOUR is another dry-flower model with USB-C directly on the device and its own oven design. None of those names is a reliable substitute for checking the part you need.
Common MINI (2) questions
The MINI name covers two generations with different controls and accessories. These answers focus on MINI (2), so you can check the charging setup, choose the right lid and identify a replacement part without mixing up the two devices.
Does USB-C mean the charger plugs into the device?
No. The MINI (2) cable connects magnetically to the device using two charging contacts. The USB-C plug is at the other end, where the cable connects to a power source. A standard USB-C cable by itself does not provide that magnetic device connection.
When looking for a replacement, check both ends of the cable rather than relying on the words “USB-C.” PAX shows the charging connection in its MINI generation identification guide. A photo of your device contacts and current cable is useful when asking for help.
How long does charging take, and what do the lights mean?
PAX lists approximately 90 minutes for MINI (2) to charge from empty to full. While it charges, the petals pulse to show progress; all four slowly pulsing white indicate a full charge. This is different from checking the battery while the device is powered on, when each solid petal represents about 25% charge.
Notice whether the lights appear during charging or during use before comparing them with a chart. The PAX charging guide separates MINI (2) from the original MINI and PLUS, whose charging estimates should not be substituted for this model.
Can the original MINI use four modes after a reset?
No. Four adjustable heat modes are a MINI (2) feature. The original MINI does not have an adjustable heat-mode menu, so holding its button or repeating a reset will not add one. If your device does not respond as expected, establish which generation you have before troubleshooting the controls.
On MINI (2), a quick press while powered on cycles through the four modes. Wait three seconds or shake the device to confirm the selection. PAX explains this sequence in its heat-mode instructions; use those instructions alongside the quick-start guide for your generation.
Can I use a half-pack lid?
Yes, MINI (2) has a full-size oven that PAX lists as compatible with its Half Pack Oven Lid. The lid gives you a smaller packing option within that oven. This is a meaningful difference from the original MINI, whose shallower oven is not compatible with that lid.
Check the generation before replacing a missing lid or buying an accessory described simply as “for PAX MINI.” PAX explains the oven difference in its MINI model comparison. Follow the MINI (2) packing instructions for the lid you are using rather than copying a routine from another PAX model.
Does the larger oven mean it takes a concentrate insert?
Half-pack lid compatibility does not establish concentrate-insert compatibility. MINI (2) is a dry-herb device, and PAX names PAX 3 and PAX PLUS on its Concentrate Insert compatibility listing. Do not assume an accessory fits because another device shares the PAX name or a similar oven shape.
If you are comparing formats, our PAX PLUS guide explains that model separately. Start with the material and device format you need, then check the manufacturer’s exact accessory listing.
What should I check if the draw feels restricted?
Let the device cool, then check the oven screen and vapor pathway as part of your cleaning routine. A screen with buildup deserves attention before changing heat settings. PAX recommends cleaning the screen and device every handful of oven loads and describes removal with the Multi-Tool or a brush through the vapor pathway in its 3D Oven Screen instructions.
The same page specifically includes MINI (2) in the 3D Oven Screen compatibility list. That confirmation applies to this named screen; it does not make every mouthpiece, lid or charger interchangeable. Match the replacement part itself, not just the brand.
Can Cloud 9 help identify my replacement part?
Contact your nearest Cloud 9 with the exact model and generation, a clear photo of the part, and any packaging or part number you still have. For a charging question, include a photo of the connector; for an oven accessory, include the lid or screen you are replacing. Those details make it easier to compare the correct parts.
Use the store page to check current hours and contact details, and ask that location about availability before making a trip. This educational guide does not show live store inventory. You can also browse the vaporizer guide library to compare other device formats.
